Urban Coalition for HIV/AIDS Prevention Services

The Urban Coalition for HIV/AIDS Prevention Services (UCHAPS) is a coalition of community members and health departments from the six local jurisdictions that are directly funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct HIV prevention programs (Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles County, New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco). Collectively these cities represent more than 1/3 of the nation's AIDS cases and the epicenters of the urban HIV epidemic.

Governed by a six member steering committee and delegations of community and governmental representatives from each jurisdiction, UCHAPS works to enhance efforts to stem the urban HIV epidemic through concerted advocacy activities, and through collaborative technical assistance and technology transfer activities among the member jurisdictions. To further its goals, UCHAPS has joined as a consortium member of AIDS Action Council, and has a collaborative and supportive partnership with the United States Conference of Mayors.
