Background
Women living with HIV, like all women, have the right to decide when, or whether or not to have children and the information and services necessary to make voluntary and informed decisions. With improved HIV treatments, the likelihood of mother-to-child transmission has decreased and the life expectancy and quality of life of women living with HIV in the U.S. has greatly increased, making the prospect of pregnancy and motherhood a viable and desirable option for many HIV-positive women. What should positive women know when considering pregnancy? What obstacles do positive women face on the road to motherhood? What can positive women and advocates do to ensure that positive women's right to reproductive health is being realized?
