FDA Approves Extended-Release Version of HIV Drug

The Food and Drug Administration has approved an extended-release form of the HIV drug nevirapine. Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals' Viramune XR is a 400 mg tablet taken once daily; the earlier version required twice-daily dosing. "Viramune XR is indicated for use in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults," FDA said.
