Saudi Arabia Reports 1,285 HIV/AIDS Cases

Saudi Arabia has recorded 452 cases of AIDS with another 833 testing HIV-positive since 1984, when the kingdom began monitoring the disease, according to health ministry official Yaqub al-Mazrou. He did not say whether those infected with the virus were Saudi nationals or foreigners, who according to the kingdom's strict regulations, are deported immediately after testing HIV-positive. Saudi Arabia has a population of 22 million. Its 6 million foreign residents are required to undergo medical exams before being allowed into the oil-rich country.
