The Midwest AIDS Prevention Project in Detroit has launched the SexEd4U program, in which trained HIV counselors join America Online chat rooms to reach gay and bisexual men who use the Internet to meet other men. The counselors answer questions about HIV and other STDs. Program creator and Director Michael Odom said the Internet "creates a safe haven for dialogue for people who want to remain anonymous. Chat rooms are becoming the meeting places for gay men that bathhouses and bathrooms used to be." Odom said he had discussions with 72 people in January alone.
