WHO Approves Four New Indian Drugs for HIV

On Tuesday, the World Health Organization approved four new generic Indian-produced drugs for HIV treatment. The four drugs are 150-mg lamivudine, made by Strides, and Cipla's 50-mg, 150-mg and 200-mg fluconazole, an antifungal. The lamivudine tablet is an alternative to Cipla's product, recently delisted because the laboratory that performed analysis to confirm the drug's efficacy did not meet international standards. WHO said the drugs will be added to its prequalification list this week.
