Purpose:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV physicians, nurses and other health care professionals with the opportunity to supplement, based on research presented at ICAAC/IDSA 2008, their knowledge on issues related to antiretroviral therapy in treatment-naive patients with HIV.

Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, registered nurses and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with HIV.

Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

1. Outline the findings of select clinical trial results presented at ICAAC/IDSA 2008 regarding the use of antiretroviral agents in treatment-naive, HIV-infected patients.
2. Describe the take-home messages from research presented at ICAAC/IDSA 2008 dealing with the issue of when to initiate antiretroviral therapy.
