Purpose:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals with the opportunity to supplement, based on research presented at ICAAC/IDSA 2008, their knowledge on issues related to the effective clinical management of HIV-infected patients.

Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, pharmacists, registered nurses and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with HIV.

Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

1. Describe the findings of key studies presented at ICAAC/IDSA 2008 regarding the efficacy of HAART and the question of when to initiate antiretroviral therapy.
2. Explain the clinical significance of selected research from ICAAC/IDSA 2008 focusing on the management of HIV-infected female patients.
3. Outline select studies from ICAAC/IDSA 2008 that investigate malignancies and bone disease.
