On Thursday, the state Senate Finance Committee agreed to restore $19.2 million for the Texas HIV Medication Program for low-income patients. A subcommittee had recommended cuts to the program during the two-year budget's planning process, prompting HIV/AIDS advocates to issue an action alert to legislators on Wednesday. Some 14,000 patients receive treatment through THMP; the Department of State Health Services expects a 14 percent increase in the number of program participants during the next two years.
