Ensure HIV Care Is a Priority in Health Care Reform: Contact Your Senators and Representatives Today!

January 6, 2010

Dear Friends,

We believe that a health care system that meets the needs of people with HIV will serve all Americans living with chronic and life-threatening conditions.

This week, leaders of the House and the Senate are meeting to merge their health care reform bills. We are writing you to encourage a strategic push to ensure that meaningful provisions to address the needs of people living with HIV are included in the final bill.

By making our voices heard, HIV advocates are in a strong position to ensure that HIV care and prevention are a priority in health care reform. HIV-related provisions to be fought for include:

  • Provisions to strengthen Medicaid
  • Provisions to improve access to prescription medications in Medicare Part D
  • Provisions to ensure affordability
  • Providing greater consumer choice through a public plan option
  • Provisions relating to private market reforms
  • Provisions to strengthen prevention and public health programs
