The full activity should take approximately 86 minutes to complete.   • Physicians: Up to 1.5 hours of AMA PRA category 1 credit.
  • Pharmacists: Up to 1.5 hours of pharmacy credit.

Learning Objectives

Purpose:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals with the opportunity to supplement their knowledge on issues related to the use of CCR5 antagonists and tropism testing in HIV-infected patients.


Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, pharmacists, registered nurses and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with HIV.


Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

  1. Outline the findings of recent, key research regarding CCR5 antagonists that have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or are in active development.
  2. Review the differences between CCR5-tropic HIV and CXCR4-tropic HIV.
  3. Explain the importance of tropism testing in the effective treatment of HIV-infected patients.
  4. Identify optimal strategies for the incorporation of CCR5 antagonists into antiretroviral therapy.
