Learning Objectives

Purpose:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV physicians, nurses and other health care professionals with the opportunity to supplement their knowledge on issues related to HIV epidemiology, pathogenesis and treatment among African Americans.


Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, nurses and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with HIV.


Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

  1. Explain the key epidemiological aspects of the HIV epidemic among African Americans.
  2. Identify some of the factors that may uniquely impact the clinical care of HIV-infected African Americans.
  3. Describe the findings of recently conducted research, including HIV pathogenesis/disease progression, the development of complications and the effects of antiretroviral therapy, in HIV-infected African-American patients.
