Adaora Adimora, M.D.
Ada Adimora is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor of Epidemiology at UNC's School of Public Health. She has been an active HIV physician since the 1980s. She heads the UNC's Fogarty AIDS International Training Research Program. She has been a reviewer for numerous journals and is currently on the Editorial Board of Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

Her research focuses on the epidemiology of HIV and STDs among minority populations.  She is particularly concerned with behavioral epidemiology and the role of sexual networks and the socioeconomic context in heterosexual HIV transmission among minorities.

She led one of the few population-based studies of risk factors for heterosexually transmitted HIV infection among African Americans in the rural South. Her work has demonstrated the importance of sexual network patterns and important contextual factors, such as poverty and racism in promoting behaviors that establish and maintain racial disparities in rates of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in the United States.
