Purpose:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals with the opportunity to supplement their knowledge on issues related to the efficacy, safety and utilization of antiretrovirals recently approved in the United States for the treatment of HIV-infected patients.

Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with HIV.

Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

1. Explain the characteristics of antiretrovirals recently approved for the treatment of HIV-infected patients.
2. Cite the findings of noteworthy clinical trials regarding recently approved antiretrovirals.
3. Describe the potential impact of the addition of recently approved antiretrovirals on the selection of treatment options for HIV-infected patients, particularly those who are treatment experienced.
