The full activity should take approximately 50 minutes to complete. Once you have listened to the podcast or read the written summary, scored 70% or higher on this activity's post-test and completed the post-test evaluation, you will be eligible to receive:

  • Physicians: Up to 1.0 hours of AMA PRA category 1 credit.
  • Pharmacists: Up to 1.0 hours of pharmacy credit.

Learning Objectives

Purpose:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals with the opportunity to supplement their knowledge on issues related to complications of HIV and HIV treatment. This will be accomplished via a CME/CE summary of highlighted research from the 15th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI 2008).


Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with HIV.


Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

  1. Review the latest data from, and expert opinion regarding, key studies presented at CROI 2008 pertinent to the complications of HIV and HIV treatment.
  2. Outline CROI 2008 research regarding the use of growth-hormone replacement therapy or chromium to ameliorate body shape problems among HIV-infected patients.
  3. Cite findings presented at CROI 2008 regarding the relationship between the use of specific antiretrovirals and an increased risk of myocardial infarction among HIV-infected patients.
  4. Explain the significance of findings presented at CROI 2008 regarding the possible role of HIV infection in triggering a proinflammatory state.
  5. Describe noteworthy findings from CROI 2008 that focus on issues of mortality and aging.
