Mark S. Sulkowski, M.D.
Mark S. Sulkowski, M.D., is the associate professor of medicine and serves as the medical director of the Viral Hepatitis Center at the Department of Medicine in Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md. He received his M.D. from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pa. (1992), and completed his fellowship in Infectious Diseases (1998) at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, in Baltimore, Md. In addition, Dr. Sulkowski has been the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials related to the management of hepatitis C in persons, including studies of novel HCV polymerase and protease inhibitors. He is the national co-principal investigator for the IDEAL (Individualized Dosing Efficacy vs. flat dosing to Assess optimaL pegylated interferon therapy) study of more than 3,000 previously untreated adult patients with chronic hepatitis C, genotype 1, conducted at more than 100 U.S. study centers.
Dr. Sulkowski is a member of numerous professional societies including American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and Infectious Diseases Society of America. He is widely published with works in Annals Internal Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of Infectious Diseases, and Hepatology. As an invited lecturer, he has presented discussions of the management of hepatitis C at numerous major medical association meetings.
