Learning Objectives

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals with the opportunity to supplement their knowledge on issues related to the treatment of HIV-infected patients who are naive to antiretroviral therapy. This will be accomplished via a CME- and CE-accredited authoritative overview of strategies and considerations for initiating HAART in treatment-naive patients.


Target Audience:

This continuing-education activity has been developed for the educational benefit of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals involved in the clinical care of, or research efforts that impact the clinical care of, individuals with HIV.


Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

  1. Identify key factors in assessing viable first-line regimens for HIV-infected patients.
  2. Explain key components of the latest DHHS guidelines outlining the appropriate regimens with which to initiate antiretroviral therapy in HIV-infected patients.
  3. Summarize the results of recent studies comparing the efficacy and safety of various antiretroviral regimens in HIV treatment-naive patients.
