Learning Objectives

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV/AIDS physicians and nurses with an in-depth, thoughtful overview and analysis of the most significant developments in HIV research during the 2006 calendar year.


Target Audience:

This continuing-education activity has been developed for the educational benefit of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals involved in the clinical care of, or research efforts that impact the clinical care of, individuals with HIV.


Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

  1. Understand the possible clinical ramifications of the most significant HIV-related studies, reports and guideline documents published or presented in 2006.
  2. Demonstrate familiarity with the latest developments regarding the efficacy and toxicity of HIV antiretroviral agents, HAART regimens and treatment strategies, based on vital research published or presented in 2006.
  3. Describe the primary recommendations of new HIV testing and treatment guidelines released in the United States during 2006.
  4. Assess the current state of the HIV antiretroviral pipeline, and discuss the potential impact of antiretrovirals that may be nearing U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval.
