Learning Objectives

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV/AIDS physicians and nurses with the opportunity to supplement their knowledge on issues related to the treatment of HIV-infected patients who are naive to antiretroviral therapy, as well as the prevention and management of cardiovascular and metabolic complications in their patients. This will be accomplished via a CME- and CE-accredited review of research presented at the 14th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI 2007).


Target Audience:

This continuing-education activity has been developed for the educational benefit of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals involved in the clinical care of, or research efforts that impact the clinical care of, individuals with HIV.


Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

  1. Summarize the results of key studies presented at CROI 2007 regarding first-line antiretroviral therapy for HIV-infected patients.
  2. Discuss the evolution of, and results of recent research impacting, the selection of viable first-line regimens for HIV-infected patients.
  3. Summarize the results of key studies presented at CROI 2007 regarding cardiovascular and metabolic complications in HIV-infected patients.
  4. Discuss the evolution of, and results of recent research impacting, strategies to utilize in the prevention and management of cardiovascular and metabolic complications in HIV-infected patients.
