Description: This course provides the active clinician with a comprehensive review of the science and application of HIV therapy. Lectures will be presented by a group of leading clinicians and researchers who are also dedicated to teaching in their area of expertise. Topics emphasized include antiretroviral initiation, regimen simplification, and antiretroviral treatment of highly experienced patients. The course devotes serious attention to end-organ complications of HIV/AIDS and its treatment with lectures on bone, renal, cardiovascular, psychiatric, as well as dermatological, and oral sequelae. Both the pathogenesis and clinical management of inflammation and aging will be covered. New topics for 2010 include a lecture and small group session on how to use Motivational Interviewing to encourage patients to engage in healthy behaviors, an update on global AIDS, vaccine research, and an examination of the epidemic in the African-American community. It will also cover key dilemmas in men's health, harm reduction, and bacterial infections that are common or complicated in HIV Medicine.
