Ups and Downs in the Struggle for Fair Drug Pricing (Video)

June 2, 2016

On behalf of IFARA, Lynda Dee, AIDS Treatment Activist Coalition co-founder and Fair Pricing Coalition (FPC) co-chair, spoke with FPC members Jeff Berry, Murray Penner and David Evans about the struggle for affordable medication pricing during the last year. Most notably, the newer hepatitis C drugs have been priced significantly below the high prices of earlier drugs in that class. Similarly, the first product based on the new version of tenofovir, TAF, will be sold at price parity with the older medication. And the steep jump in the price of a toxoplasmosis drug has helped galvanize the public debate around drug pricing. This affords activists an opportunity to talk about potential government involvement in this aspect of the pharmaceutical industry.
