Try, if you can, to hold it together while hearing from a man from Nigeria who risks imprisonment simply by providing services to gay men; in his country, such a nefarious act is punishable by a decade in prison. Marvel at Wonder Woman, an Australian aboriginal drag performer who has taken on the mantle of a superhero HIV awareness figure. And hear the impassioned pleas of the disenfranchised -- including transgender people, those from remote locales of the planet, and those who feel as though they're still invisible even at the conference they're attending.
A willingness to help others is one of our most precious human traits. As you will see, it survives even the most dire life circumstances. I don't know about you, but after hearing these people's words, it's made me take stock of my own place in this world and the privileges I enjoy.
Among so many delegates who share a common energy for HIV advocacy, friendships easily develop -- and sometimes a lot more than that. And so my word of the day isn't simply Australian, it's universal: "love." I have a very special message at the end of this video that demonstrates exactly what I mean.
