20th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2014)

Go Down Under With Mark S. King's Video Blogs From AIDS 2014

July 9, 2014

When sent me to Vienna in 2010 for the International AIDS Conference, it was profound for me in more ways than one. I had found my calling as a video blogger, and I will never forget how exhilarating it felt to share the sights and sounds of the massive event with viewers.

Wrangling a female condom. Meeting female activists from Uganda on the subway. Interviewing Annie Lennox about her "HIV POSITIVE" T-shirt. I will always be grateful to for believing in me and nurturing my crazy video reports.

Inspiring stories of people living with HIV.

In Washington, D.C., in 2012, I marched on the White House in my favorite video of all, and highlighted the important and often very colorful work of advocates from around the world.

And now, we're headed down under for AIDS 2014 in Melbourne, Australia! Even though I have since created my own ongoing blog, My Fabulous Disease, will always be home for me. I'm so excited to be creating exclusive coverage for the site that sent me my first video recorder and said, "Just do what you do." I'm so proud of my association with this tremendous online resource.

In Melbourne, as in the past, I'm going to leave the clinical data and research coverage to those better qualified to cover it. Instead, I hope to provide you with that which you might not see anywhere else: the advocates; the people living with HIV from around the world; and the awesome visuals of the music and dance and theater and human drama of the conference.

Are you ready? Let's go!
