Grant to Help Inform HIV-Positive People of Family-Building Options

February 4, 2014

This article was reported by the Wisconsin Gazette.

The Wisconsin Gazette reported that on February 3, the Elton John AIDS Foundation announced a grant to the American Fertility Association for improving awareness of family-building for HIV-positive individuals. The foundation wants HIV-positive individuals to know that they can have biologically linked offspring safely due to advances in fertility science. The two groups plan an educational campaign focusing on HIV-positive persons, their physicians, reproductive endocrinologists, and community-based organizations. Also, the campaign will target underserved locations in the South using online and social media means to reach HIV-positive individuals who are considering starting a family. Part of the campaign is a seminar for professionals on HIV family-building options to update the medical community on the science and issues involved.
