Identifying and Reducing the HIV Reservoir: More Pieces to the Cure Puzzle (Video)

September 16, 2013

In this interview, Fred Schaich, of the International Foundation for Alternative Research in AIDS (IFARA), sits down with James Williams and Una O'Doherty, M.D., Ph.D., to talk about their research helping to eliminate the latent HIV reservoir, part of the overall push toward an HIV cure.

O'Doherty, from the University of Pennsylvania, explains her preliminary research involving cell sorting, a technique that stains cells with an antibody against gag (an HIV protein) to identify which cells HIV may be hidden in.

Williams, from the University of Oxford, discusses his research examining how HIV DNA levels may be predictors of how well a person can do on and off antiretroviral therapy.

Both researchers are currently in early stages of studies, but both hope to better identify and reduce or eliminate the HIV reservoir.
