Study results presented at EUROECHO and other Imaging Modalities 2012 showed elevated incidence of atherosclerosis (build up of fat or cholesterol-based plaque in arteries) in children living with HIV. The study authors recommended increased vigilance for symptoms among pediatric HIV patients, and attention to life style issues often associated with lower socioeconomic status, including smoking, poor diet, and lack of exercise.
