Learning Objectives

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV/AIDS physicians, nurses and pharmacists with the opportunity to earn CME or CE credit via a comprehensive review of the latest data on HIV drug resistance and salvage therapy presented at the 12th Annual Conference of the British HIV Association and the 4th European HIV Drug Resistance Workshop.


Target Audience:

This continuing-education activity has been developed for the educational benefit of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals involved in the clinical care of, or research efforts that impact the clinical care of, individuals with HIV.


Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

  1. Discuss the findings and significance of key research presented at the 4th European HIV Drug Resistance Workshop and the 12th Annual Conference of the British HIV Association specifically related to HIV drug resistance and the management of multidrug-resistant, HIV-infected patients.
  2. Explain important aspects of the relationship between HIV drug resistance mutations and the decisions that a clinician must make regarding the selection of new regimens for, and the clinical management of, heavily treatment-experienced patients with HIV.
  3. Identify new antiretrovirals and antiretrovirals in late-stage development that may offer new therapeutic options for HIV-infected patients with multidrug resistance.
