Learning Objectives

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this activity is to provide HIV/AIDS physicians and nurses with the opportunity to supplement their knowledge on issues related to the prevention and management of cardiovascular and metabolic complications in their patients.


Target Audience:

This continuing-education activity has been developed for the educational benefit of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in the clinical care of, or research efforts that impact the clinical care of, individuals with HIV.


Objectives:

Participants who complete this educational activity should be able to:

  1. Identify the most clinically relevant cardiovascular and metabolic complications currently experienced by HIV-infected patients, and discuss the risk factors associated with these complications.
  2. Demonstrate an ability to summarize the findings of recent, key studies regarding the relationship between HIV, HIV treatment and the development of cardiovascular abnormalities and metabolic complications.
  3. Identify the options currently available to HIV-infected patients and clinicians who seek to prevent or treat the cardiovascular and metabolic complications associated with HIV infection and HIV treatment.
