In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Gandhi is actively involved in HIV-related research, particularly that which pertains to HIV-infected women. She works on epidemiologic and clinical studies in the Women's Interagency HIV cohort (WIHS), a massive, multi-site cohort study established in 1994 to study HIV infection among U.S. women. Her other areas of focus include population pharmacokinetics and the epidemiology of HIV in India.
Dr. Gandhi has co-authored studies published in AIDS, AIDS Care, the American Journal of Public Health, the Annals of Internal Medicine and Clinical Infectious Diseases. Dr. Gandhi has also presented research at several major HIV conferences, including the XVI International AIDS Conference and the 13th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections.
Dr. Gandhi earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and her master's degree in public health from the University of California-Berkeley School of Public Health. She completed her residency (in internal medicine), post-doctoral research fellowship and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of California-San Francisco.
