Occupational injury

QUESTION:

I had a needlestick injury with an unknown needle 1 month ago. The injury was deep, I think that the needle was clean as it was on the table in clinic, but I cannot be sure. I have a lot of anxiety surrounding the event and would like to know what your recommendations are regarding further testing. Is the combination Elisa with antigen testing sufficient at the 3 month mark, or should I be tested at 6 months just to be sure. I would really appreciate any advice and help that you could provide. Thanks.

Bryan

RESPONSE FROM:

    Bryan,

    Thanks for your post.

You should be tested in accordance with your employee health/occupational medicine protocol. That said, we would typically test you at 1,3 and 6 months.

I hope things turn out ok (negative).
