Advance Specialty Training in cardiology

Posted: Oct 4, 2008

QUESTION:

Dear Dr,I have patient who is a physician himself. He is newly diagnosed with HIV March 2008. He is keen to subspecialize in cardiology. Will he be rejected to join such field? Is there any procedure in cardiology that he cant do?Thanks!

RESPONSE FROM:

    Thanks for your post.

There shouldn't be any issue with your patient seeking training in cardiology. Indeed, several governmental agencies in the US have ruled that there are no restrictions for HIV+ physicians in practice.

I would certainly advise your physician-patient to seek more specific counsel on this topic.

    Good luck,
