Dental Problems

QUESTION:

Hello, I have been taking care of my use to be perfect teeth ever since i can remember, I floss, I rinse, I brush at least 2 times daily sometimes 3. My family has been I guess you could say blessed with great teeth and a great smile. Having HIV going on 16 years, this past 5 years my teeth are going bad. Talking to my dentist he stated that it was probably the hiv medications I am taking. have any answers or helpful advise Thank You Ky

    Dear KY,

    I'm sorry to hear about your situation. With rare exceptions, there is not an association between HIV medications and dental diseases. On the other hand, periodontal disease is quite common in persons living with HIV.
