QUESTION:

I am taking Truvda and Kaletra, I am having very serious nausea and have to take Zofran and Phenagan to help. Is this a side effect of the HIV medications and can I do anything to help

RESPONSE FROM:

Wow, sounds like you've persisted with very serious nausea if your doctor has had to resort to Phenergan AND Zofran without relief.

It's probable that the culprit is the Kaletra-- there are a wide variety of medication alternatives, from other boosted PIs, like atazanavir (Reyataz) or fosamprenavir (Lexiva) or a switch to a non-nuke (NNRTI).

If I were your doctor, I'd entertain a treatment switch. Which drug to change to will depend a lot on your past treatment history.

    Best of luck, BY
