crypto meningitis

QUESTION:

Pt with second bout of crypto and is now blind. When LPs are done to relieve pressure pt can see shadows. Will the site return when all the pressure is down and of courrse the crypto

    Thanks for your post.

    Cryptococcal meningitis can be a devastating complication of AIDS- the recurrence in your patient raises the obvious question about the failure of antiretroviral therapy (another devastating finding) or immune reconstitution.

    Serial lumbar punctures are typically done to alleviate increased ICP; your patient's modest clinical improvement with this is encouraging. It's difficult to know the full extent of recovery, but I would be optimistic that his or her vision will continue to improve.
