Link between cancer causing viruses(HPV, EBV, HERPES) and HIV/AIDS

Posted: Apr 22, 2008

QUESTION:

Is it that there is no definite proof or that the link to cancer causing viruses such as HPV, maybe EBV and Herpes viruses is so alarming that the medical field just does not want to go there with even making that link. The public needs to be made aware of the great risk, social tragedy and eventual world catastrophe that promiscuous sexual activity is presenting to us in the medical field, this nation and the world as a whole. All of these viruses are linked to sexual activity, EBV-the kissing disease virus that most people have and are not even aware of, HPV which affects more women than we are willing to admit and the herpes virus which most people have laying dormant in their bodies just waiting for the opportunity(hence the term opportunistic diseases) to make it's move.

Thank you for your time and excellent work.

RESPONSE FROM:

    Dear Jasmin,

Certainly the world would be a lot safer from communicable diseases if members of our species refrained from pressing their lips and/or genitals to those of other homo sapiens. But, that just is not going to happen. We are wired to reproduce just as we have been programmed to cram in the calories and if the number of obese people walking about is any indication, evolutionary habits die slowly.

Putting aside EBV (please, stop kissing, give me death!), the public is well aware that sexually transmitted nasties are lurking in our crinkly parts. News magazines warn us that tens of millions in the US have herpes, public service announcements regarding HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases are abundant and yet, while that gives many pause, others have a difficult time seeing past the attractive package.

What is the answer? I think much has to do with how much a person values themselves. Precious things are protected and secured and when children feel valued and grow to consider themselves worth safeguarding from danger, then we will see more responsibility when it comes to our intimate lives. Such self esteem coupled with accurate knowledge is where I see power and hope.
