Sleep aid interacts with Sustiva Posted: Aug 30, 2004 QUESTION: Patient on HAART with Sustiva has tried using Tylenol brand sleep aid "Simply Sleep" (active ingredient Diphenhydramine) and experiences hot & cold flashes and symptoms similar to those experienced with narcotic withdrawal. Any thought/information on this?


RESPONSE FROM: Thanks for your post. In general, diphenhydramine is pretty well tolerated, though the medication can cause increased sweating occasionally. I'd bet that the hot and cold flashes that your patient is experiencing is an adverse reaction to the sleep medication. BY
