Slow progressor

Posted: May 26, 2006

QUESTION:

I have a client who has been HIV positive since 6/04. Her highest VL hs been 1050 with lowest CD4 1280 (53.6%). How do I locate a study of slow progressors in Northern CA for her? I have checked several websites but haven't seen any thing like this. Do they still do this type of studies? Thank you for your assistance.

RESPONSE FROM:

    Thanks for your post.

Your client indeed has a very low viral load and high CD4 cell count. The immunologic basis for such situations remains somewhat cryptic and an area of interest for many.

There are a number of world-class research programs in the Bay area-- I'd suggest contacting the research groups at San Francisco General Hospital or at Stanford University for starters. I'm not sure if your client meets enrollment criteria for such studies, but I'm certain that their study coordinators would be happy to discuss available options.
