News from ICAAC?

Posted: Oct 3, 2002

QUESTION:

I didn't get a chance to go to ICAAC. What do you think the biggest news to come out of ICAAC was--if anything?

RESPONSE FROM:

    Thanks for the question.

ICAAC was not the place this year for ground breaking discovery; there were presenations on new agents: protease inhibitors (atazanavir and GW908- the amprenavir prodrug) that were interesting. Presentations about Tibotec TMC125, the second generation NNRTI continue to be encouraging. The reporting on the results of tenofovir showed continuing good results, and confirmed previous reports of elevations in lipids associated with d4T.

Much discussion about the Ho presenation on defensins was generated.

I'd recommend a look at the conference coverage at The Body Pro. BY
