Treatment of Chronic HCV Infection.

QUESTION:

In case of treatment of chronic HCV infection with peg interferon and ribaverin in a HIV/HCV coinfected IDU,for how long the treatment continue after supressing the viral count<600 and viral rna undetectable?Do we need to continue a few more months?

    Thanks for your post.

    Conventional wisdom (if there is such a thing) suggests treating HIV/HCV coinfected patients for 6-12 months total (irrespective of when they reached undetectable HCV viral loads). Most patients that have treated have been treated for 12 months, provided that medications were tolerated. BY
