HCV Genotype.

QUESTION:

I have a patient suffering from Chronic HCV infection but Genotype 6g.My questions are-does the genotype 6g rare? -what is the treatment protocol?

    HCV genotype 6 is a relatively uncommon strain, but well reported in the world's literature. A report from Hong Kong in Journal of Infectious Diseases (J Infect Dis. 2003 Apr 1;187(7):1071-4. Epub 2003 Mar ) suggests that genotype 6 patients respond to conventional interferon/ribavirin therapy quite well and better than those persons infected with genotype 1 virus. BY
