Liquid Kaletra

QUESTION:

Thu., Feb. 14, 2008 at 11:35 am EST We have a pregnant pt on liquid Kaletra who is unable to take tablet form. The pt is on 14cc/daily of Kaletra b/c she is unable to take NRTIs secondary to tolerance and resistance. What are your thoughts on the above especially in relation to the alcohol content in liquid form. Thank you in advance.

RESPONSE FROM:

    Thanks for your post.

I would think that the liquid Kaletra would be a very good alternative to the tablet or capsule formulations. I don't think that the difference in the alcohol content of the liquid should pose significant problems.

Be sure to consider dose adjustment or TDM during third trimester-- since the volume of distribution typically goes up at this time, requiring increased doses of the PI.
