QUESTION:

hello sir i have a 8 month old male child with cmv retinitis started on intravenous gancyclovir since one day. what is the recommended treatment for cmv retinitis. when should i start him on haart

    Thank you for your post.

    A typical treatment of cytomegalovirus infection is for 14 days with high dose ganciclovir, followed by maintenence therapy. Because of the risk of immune reconstitution end-organ disease with CMV, the initiation of HAART is delayed until the completion of the initial treatment phase.
