use of serostim for lipodystrophy

Posted: May 18, 2007

QUESTION:

Has the FDA approved the use of Serostim for treatmnet of liptdystrophy?

RESPONSE FROM:

Not yet. It remains only approved for treatment of the wasting syndrome associated with progressive, uncontrolled AIDS.

Not serostim (growth hormone) has been found to reduce fat accumulation. It does not make fat wasting.

A new agent called growth hormone releasing factor is under study and this drug may also help treat fat accumulation.
