Change of regime containing Stavudine

Posted: Sep 23, 2007

QUESTION:

Dear Dr. Wohl:

Can a switch from a regime that contained Didanosin and Stavudine just stop the peripheral neuropathy at its tracks or will it actually reverse it ?

RESPONSE FROM:

Switching from ddI and d4T to an alternative regimen should reduce the symptoms of neuropathy if the meds are the cause. AZT/3TC or tenofovir/FTC or 3TC should not cause neuropathy.
