HepC and PCP prophylaxis

QUESTION:

For HIV/HepC coinfected patients do you use CD4 count of less than 200 as a marker to start PCP prophylaxis or CD4 percentage value of <12%??

    Thanks for your post.

    In a word, yes.

    In my clinical practice, consistent with US and international guidelines, all HIV patients (monoinfected or HCV-coinfected) with CD4 counts less than 200 (or <15%) are recommended to start PCP prophylaxis using trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole.
