Nelfinavir and ritonavir

Posted: Aug 12, 2006

QUESTION:

I know that nelfinavir can't be boosted with ritonavir, but I don't know why is that. Could you tell me? Thanks

RESPONSE FROM:

    Thanks for your post.

While the protease inhibitor nelfinavir is metabolized by the hepatic cytochrome system, the particular isozyme responsible for it's metabolism isn't the same one that is utilized (and inhibited) by ritonavir. Hence, ritonavir doesn't "boost" nelfinavir exposure. BY
